WAGES & WORKING CONDITIONS MEETING

In preparation for the talks with Public Television networks and producers, the Union is holding meetings to get input from its membership upon which contract proposals will be based.

AFTRA members are invited to attend these meetings upon presentation of their paid-up membership cards.

In order to continue bringing information and opportunity to AFTRANY members, the New York Local will be holding a series of seminars called Summer@AFTRANY over the next few months. Information on the first seminar is attached below. AFTRA hopes that NY Members will be able to take Advantage of the skills & experiences of working performers and other professionals in our community. We hope you will join us at the Local for some of these valuable Seminars, which should range in topic from preparing for auditions/interviews to basic acting skills, to what performers representatives look for when thinking about taking on a client. We look forward to these seminars and hope you will join us.

OPEN DOOR 2009 IS COMING! 
AFTRA's Open Door Program provides the opportunity for paid-up New York members to meet with casting directors and agents.  At the last Open Door, over 1,200 members met with 125 agents and casting directors who gave over 2,200 appointments.

AFTRA NEW YORK MEMBERS WIN NEW LAW BANNING NON-COMPETE PROVISIONS IN BROADCAST CONTACTS. 

AFTRA New York members who had contributed their hard work and effort in support of the “Broadcast Employees Freedom to Work Act” hailed New York Governor David A. Paterson for signing the new law yesterday. “On behalf of AFTRA New York members, my heartfelt thanks and deep respect go out to Gov. Paterson for signing the law, which prohibits unfair restrictions in contracts that forced many of our broadcasters in New York to move from their home state or leave broadcasting altogether,” said Holter Graham, AFTRA New York Local President.
