Nominations and Election of AFTRA Miami Local Board Members
and National Board Member
• Miami Local Board Members:
In order to effectuate an orderly transition so that the term of all Local Board members expire at the same time, the terms of all Local Board Officers and Members-At-Large will expire on June 30, 2006. Therefore, the following positions are open for nominations at this time: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and eight (8) Members-at-Large. All elected Officers and Members-At-Large will serve a term of one (1) year, beginning on July 1, 2006 and expiring on June 30, 2007. In 2007, we will again need to elect all Local Board members for a term of two (2) years and every two (2) years thereafter.
• Miami National Board Member:
The National Board has been restructured. In order to effectuate an orderly transition, all current board members' terms will end June 30, 2006. In Miami, we need to elect one (1) National Board member for a term of one (1) year beginning July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007. In 2007, we will again need to elect our National Board member for a term of four (4) years and every four (4) years thereafter.
• Eligibility for Local and National Board Nominations:
Only active members in good standing may be nominated. A member in good standing is defined as one who is paid up in dues, initiation fee, reinstatement fee, assessments and fines as of the day he/she signs the nomination petition. Members paying dues pursuant to a payroll “check-off” agreement or an AFTRA approved payment plan are considered to be in good standing. In addition, to be eligible as a candidate, a member cannot be employed as management or perform the function of management within the jurisdiction of AFTRA.
• Nominating Process:
Any members interested in running or nominating another member for the Local Board or the National Board can do so by requesting a nomination petition to the Miami office at miami@aftra.com or 954-920-2476.
Nominations must be signed by 5 members in good standing for Local Board nominations and by 20 members in good standing for National Board nominations. Nomination petitions must be presented to the Miami Executive Director no later than May 22, 2006.
• Election:
The election will be conducted by mail ballot following the May 22 deadline to receive nominations, unless all candidates nominated are running unopposed. Only members in good standing will be eligible to vote.
