The following is a message from the AFL-CIO about what you can do to help the Haitian earthquake victims.

"Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed."
                                                        - Haitian President Rene Preval

Haiti is a scene of unimaginable devastation and human tragedy today.

Please do all you can to help Haitians survive Tuesday's massive earthquake by donating to one of the service organizations listed here.

I know this is a tough time for many of you. But we show our true character by helping those in greater need than ourselves even when it is hard.

Union members and other working family activists are the most giving, selfless people I know.

Can the people of Haiti count on you today?

Thousands of Haitians may have died, and no one knows how many remain trapped in rubble. Haiti, already the poorest nation in this hemisphere, desperately needs medical services, food, water, shelter--everything.

Please do your part by making a donation today to one of the organizations listed here. Just click on the link to give.

Thank you for your life-saving generosity.

In solidarity,

Arlene Holt Baker
AFL-CIO Executive Vice President

P.S. National Nurses United activated its nationwide disaster relief network and has recruited more than 3,400 nurse volunteers to assist Haitians. Urban search-and-rescue (US&R) teams made up of Fire Fighters from across North America are already on their way to provide rescue operations, medical care and other emergency services. The Steelworkers and other unions are contributing and raising funds to help. For updates on union efforts, click here to follow the AFL-CIO Now blog.
