Laura Kenny Appointed To AFTRA Seattle Board

Posted January 06, 2010

Seattle-based actress Laura Kenny was appointed this week to a seat on the AFTRA Seattle Local Board of Directors and will fill out the remainder of the term vacated by veteran KPLU-FM reporter Gary Davis, who has recently returned to graduate school.

Kenny is well known to Pacific Northwest audiences for her comic performances on local stages including The 5th Avenue Musical Theatre, A Contemporary Theater, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Village Theatre, among many others. She has also appeared in television productions such as "Northern Exposure" and "Rose Red," and in the feature films "Harry And The Hendersons," "Ten Things I Hate About You," "Mad Love" and "The World's Greatest Dad," along with numerous commercial and voice over gigs. She has been an active member of AFTRA since 1987 and recently represented the Seattle Local as a delegate to the annual Washington State Labor Convention. In addition to her membership in AFTRA, she is also a member of AEA, SAG and a retired member of CWA.

Kenny said of her appointment, "I come from a union family and I am willing to fight the tough fight to keep our union vital and relevant in performer's lives. I want to represent the free lance community in AFTRA by finding ways to create more Union work for our members. I want to turn non-union work union and keep it that way."

She added, "Thank you for this opportunity to represent you and please stay tuned for some exciting perks coming your way because you are an AFTRA Union member."
