Seattle AFTRA Members Sweep Regional RTDNA Awards

Posted April 08, 2010

From the breaking news of the arrest of an accused cop killer, to wall to wall coverage of winter floods, through a moving feature on the legacy of a native drum singer, Seattle’s AFTRA-represented reporters and editors have swept all of the top honors at one of the industry’s most prestigious competitions.

On top of that, an AFTRA radio reporter took home top honors for a radio documentary on the resurgence of tuberculosis as a health threat in the Pacific Northwest.

The awards were presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) for outstanding 2009 broadcast news work in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. The regional winners will go on to the RTDNA’s national award competition.

KING-5 TV took home eight awards, including honors for overall excellence, use of video and their web site.

KOMO TV earned three awards, including video investigative reporting and video breaking news.

KIRO TV won a pair of top awards, including video documentary.

Keith Seinfeld, health and science reporter with KPLU Public Radio in Seattle, took the award for his June story on the rising number of TB cases in the region.
